Data Is a Value – Protect It! From Latvia takes the Grand Prix at the 2025 IPRA Golden World Awards, while there is whiff of greenovation about the Global Contribution Award in Ghana

The Grand Prix 2025 of the IPRA Golden World Awards for Excellence (GWA), the world’s most prestigious PR awards scheme, went to Data Is a Value - Protect It! about the importance of safeguarding personal information. The campaign from Latvia’s Olsen + Partners on behalf of the Data State Inspectorate used pop-up stores in Riga shopping malls. The Everything for Nothing. Nothing for Everything stores offered prizes in exchange for personal data.

The Grand Prix was given at the IPRA GWA Gala in Accra, Ghana attended by over 200 participants from all over the African continent and the rest of the world.

Also announced on the night was the prestigious Global Contribution Award for PR with an objective of meeting one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Ghana faces the triple challenge of climate change, environmental degradation and food insecurity. But agriculture does not receive the attention needed. The Greenovation project from Stratcomm Africa leveraged floriculture and horticulture for climate resilience. It met SDG Goal 15 Life on Land.

The night itself was one of the award schemes most attended. “The GWA has rarely reached such impressive attendance with such a high level of people including Ghana’s Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. After getting the audience to clap and dance she praised IPRA and gave an informed and amusing address,” commented IPRA Secretary General Philip Sheppard.

Background to the Golden World Awards for Excellence.

The annual IPRA Golden World Awards (GWA) initiative, established in 1990, recognizes excellence in public relations practice worldwide in a variety of categories. Recipients of the award take particular pride in the recognition granted to their entry as meeting international standards of excellence in public relations. An overall IPRA Grand Prix for Excellence is presented each year to the entry judged as representing the highest standards that year. While there are many national and regional PR awards, there is only one truly global scheme: the GWA.
