Dear PR enthusiasts around the world,
The year 2023 is drawing to a close, and with it my presidency of this esteemed association. I would like to express my gratitude to each and every one of you working in communications, those before us and those who will come after us. To connect people, ideas, companies, NGOs, countries, and continents, skills such as empathy, knowledge and understanding are essential. You have those skills.
The IPRA President’s Award
It is a fine tradition for the IPRA President to honour an organisation or individual who has made an “outstanding contribution to better world understanding” each year. The IPRA President’s Award was established in 1977. Previous recipients of the award include the 30% Club, Zeit Online, the International Red Cross, the Nobel Foundation, UNESCO, Amnesty International, Transparency International, the WWF, The Economist and the National Geographic Society.
I chose Dr. Nicole LePera, the holistic psychologist who founded the global SelfHealersCircle in 2018. Her outstanding contribution to better world understanding is her realisation that before people can understand the world, they need to understand themselves. Dr. Nicole has a deep inner knowledge of the importance of responsibility, of standing up for one’s principles and of the fulfilment of sharing one’s wisdom with others. One can see how she personally cares about the team and the community she created, by acknowledging member’s vulnerability, honesty and braveness on taking their destiny in their own hands.
Share & care
I am convinced that our world and our future can only get better if people realise that we are all connected, that we are all one, that we all live on one earth, and that we need to work together. I invite you to listen to your body. Connect with yourself, with other people, and with the world. When you are aware of yourself, you become aware of others and the world around you. We need this inner and outer connection as a prerequisite for our own healing and healing the planet. My motto for this year was “share & care”. I hope this has shown through in every one of my twelve messages.
Now it is time to introduce to you my dear colleague and friend Nataša Pavlović Bujas from Serbia who will serve as the IPRA President 2024. I am looking forward to the new year ahead of us and wish you all the best for yourself, your loved ones and for the aspirations you have in becoming the best version of you.
Kind regards,
Dr. Anne-Gret Iturriaga Abarzua
IPRA President 2023
